Languages in Gilgit-Baltistan

There are seven languages and dialects in Gilgit-Baltistan which are Brushaski, Shina, Balti, Wakhi, Khuwar, Domaki and Gujri.


  • Brushaski is speaking  in Hunza Valley, Nagar Valley ,Yasin Valley and also   20 percent of population in Gilgit City.
  • Shina is speaking in Lower Hunza  , Gilgit City, Ghizer, Astore and in Diamer.
  • Balti is speaking in Baltistan( Skardu, Khapulu and Shigar).
  • Wakhi is speaking in Upper Hunza.
  • Khuwar is speaking in Phundar in District Ghizer.
  • Domaki is speaking at Mominabad a small town among Karimabad, Altit and Ghanish in Hunza Valley.
  • Gugri is speaking in Gilgit City and in Naltar Valley. Speakers are a few.
